More than 85 percent of our calls are for medical aid.

All firefighters are certified as either:

  • Emergency medical technicians to provide basic life support care
  • Paramedics with extra training and skills to provide advanced life support care in life-threatening emergencies.

First responders working in the field are also supported by a medical services officer on duty around the clock.

Community Paramedic Program

Our Community Paramedic Program provides non-emergency services to help clients and their families identify service needs and access care, the Community Paramedic Program reduces 911 calls and emergency room visits.

High cardiac arrest save rate

South County Fire's cardiac arrest survival rate is one of the highest in the country. That means more survivors out of the hospital and back home with family. Firefighters work as a team to provide high-performance CPR. Community lifesavers play a key role too. More than 20,000 people have learned CPR in our free ACT First Aid class.
