Property owners can appeal their benefit charge if they feel the amount is incorrect.

The benefit charge will appear on your tax statement, generally mailed to you by the county each year in the middle of February. Benefit charge appeals are due by April 1.

To file an appeal:

Download the Benefit Charge Appeal Form (PDF)

Submit the completed appeal form or a written appeal request by email or mail by April 1:

Appeals cannot be submitted in person as Headquarters is closed to the public due to the pandemic.

Appeal process

A Benefit Charge Review Board appointed by the Board of Commissioners will review appeals and determine if the benefit charge should be adjusted.

The Review Board will submit its determinations to the Board of Commissioners for final ratification.

If the benefit charge is adjusted, South County Fire will notify the affected property owner and the Snohomish County Treasurer.
