South County Fire only accepts applications for currently open positions.

Job applications are submitted online by clicking on an open position and entering the required information. The application process creates a candidate profile and application within our applicant tracking system, NeoGov.

Please follow all of the instructions carefully. For most positions, candidates are required to attach documents and answer questions relevant to hiring for that position.  Candidates who do not complete the application thoroughly or who do not include the required documents will not be considered for hire.  

Most South County Fire job openings generate a large number of candidates. Please follow these tips for best consideration:

• Use proper spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar. Not only does that help our hiring team to read your application, it reflects your level of professionalism and attention to detail.
• Check your application carefully before submitting it. Adding items and editing may not always be possible later.
• Double check your email address and phone number. Just one incorrect letter or number could mean that you are not contacted for potential consideration.
• Make sure you are applying for the correct position and read the qualification requirements carefully. Many jobs look similar, but you should only apply for the position for which you believe you are qualified.
• Only apply to a job one time. We do not use a lottery system – applying more than once does not increase your chances of being selected and it actually makes it more complicated for our hiring team.
• Make sure your attached documents exactly match the requirements. If you attach a document that does not meet the requirement exactly, your application will be disqualified.
• Make sure that your resume is current and matches the information you submit on your application.
• Check the names of the documents you submit.  You should not submit documents that are clearly intended for application with another organization.
• Do not attach documents that are not required. Doing so does not increase your chances of being selected and can slow the hiring process.
• Please do not call or email to ask if we have received your application. Trust that your submission on NeoGov worked and we will see all applications.  However, if there is an issue with your submission and you need assistance, please call (425) 551-1256.
• Check your email frequently after the job closing date. If you are selected to continue to the next step in the process, we will contact you by email soon after the closing date, but not before.  Also, be sure to check your junk and/or spam folders in addition to your inbox in case our automated emails end up there.

• Fulfill all required steps as outlined in the job posting and conditional job offer. Those requirements will vary by position. As a condition of employment, all positions require passing a drug test (please note that South County Fire is a tobacco-free and nicotine-free workplace), a criminal background check, and reference checks.  Some positions, including firefighters, will additionally undergo a medical exam, spirometry test, driving record check, and psychological exam and must meet South County’s standards.

• All required certifications must be current and are subject to validation.

• Candidates must be able to perform, with or without accommodation as provided under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), all essential functions of the job as outlined in the job description provided in the job posting.

• Candidates must be able to fulfill all physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodation as provided under the ADA. Firefighter candidates will be required to engage in daily physical training and daily strenuous physical activity beginning on the date of hire.
